Jewish Man Chased with Knife in Brooklyn as Antisemitic Hate Crimes Rise

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on hate-crime charges after allegedly chasing a Jewish man with a knife through Brooklyn while shouting “Heil f—ing Hitler”, Israel National news reports

The incident comes amid a continuing rise in reported antisemitic hate crimes across New York City, where anti-Jewish offences account for the majority of recorded hate crimes.

Video released by Crown Heights Shmira, a Jewish neighbourhood security organisation, shows the 24-year-old victim running up the steps of his home as the suspect follows closely behind.

According to police, the confrontation began when the suspect approached the Jewish man, cursed at him and made threats. When the victim attempted to escape, the man allegedly pursued him while armed with a knife and continued threatening him.

The victim managed to reach his home and get inside. The suspect then allegedly shouted, “Now I know where you live,” while still holding the knife.

Footage from the incident also appears to show the man using the weapon to slash the tyres of bicycles outside the property.

New York Police Department officers subsequently arrested the suspect, who is reportedly from the Bronx. He has been charged with aggravated harassment as a hate crime and menacing.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the attack.

The incident adds to growing concerns about antisemitic violence and intimidation in New York. Figures released by the NYPD earlier this month showed an overall increase in reported hate crimes during 2026.

Police recorded 425 hate crimes across the city during the first eight months of the year, compared with 367 during the equivalent period in 2025. This represents an increase of 15.8 per cent.

Antisemitic hate crimes increased by eight per cent and continued to constitute the majority of all hate crimes recorded in New York City.

Several violent incidents have targeted Jewish New Yorkers and places of worship in recent months.

Last month, a man attacked Manhattan’s Central Synagogue during Shabbat services, injuring a worshipper and causing damage inside the building.

In August, six local youths attacked a Haredi Jewish man in Borough Park and threw eggs at him.

A month earlier, on Tisha B’Av, another Jewish man was stabbed outside a synagogue.

The latest attack is particularly disturbing because the victim was allegedly pursued to his own home while being threatened with a knife and subjected to an explicit Nazi salute. The suspect’s alleged warning that he now knew where the Jewish man lived also raises concerns that the intimidation could extend beyond the initial confrontation.
