From November 2, a complete ban on the activities of the Hamas terrorist group will be in force in Germany.
The German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, announced on November 2, Thursday, that from that day, a complete ban on the activities of the Hamas terrorist organisation would be in effect. The activities of the pro-Palestinian group Samidoun will also be banned.
„With Hamas, I have today completely banned the activities of a terrorist organisation whose aim is to destroy the state of Israel,” Nancy Faeser said in a statement.
Hamas has already been designated a terrorist organisation in the EU since 2001, the second intifada. Nevertheless, Germany’s new ban establishes the legal framework in the country to halt its activities entirely. The measure makes support for both Hamas and Samidoun a criminal offence, allows authorities to confiscate their assets and outlaws their internet presence.
Regarding Samidoun, whose website says the organisation works to „build solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in their struggle for freedom,” Faeser said the international network works under the guise of a solidarity group for prisoners to spread anti-Israel and antisemitic propaganda.
