Police are investigating the murder of the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit, Michigan, who was found stabbed to death outside her home.
Detroit police are investigating the circumstances of the death of Samantha Woll, the 40-year-old leader of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Michigan, who was found dead near her home on Saturday morning, October 21.
Detroit Police Chief James E. White said they are reviewing all available evidence while asking for the public’s patience.
„We believe that there are no other groups or anyone else at risk in regards to this particular incident,” White said. „We believe that this incident was not motivated by antisemitism and that this suspect acted alone.”
A trail of blood led police from her body to her house, where they believe the killing took place. They have been searching the area with dogs, but there is no information about who carried out the killing or why.
Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan’s Democratic governor, said the state police were involved in the investigation. „She was a source of light, a beacon in her community who worked hard to make Michigan a better place,” she said in a statement. Woll was a well-known face in Detroit Democratic public life, having worked on the campaigns of local candidates.
Attacks on Jewish and Palestinian Americans have increased since the Israel-Gaza war erupted two weeks ago. After news of Ms Woll’s death emerged, police urged the public not to jump to conclusions about why she was killed.
Statement from Chief James E. White regarding the investigation into the death of Samantha Woll: The investigation into the death of Ms. Woll remains ongoing. At this time, however, no evidence has surfaced suggesting that this crime was motivated by antisemitism.
