French President Emmanuel Macron pledged before representatives of the Jewish community that France will continue its „relentless” fight against antisemitism.
In the face of rising antisemitism since October 7, the state of France will continue to fight antisemitism with the same „determination” and „the same relentlessness” as before, Macron said.
„Whenever there is the slightest trace of antisemitism, we will be relentless, as we have always been and as my predecessors were. Through antisemitism, they attack the very basis that unites the nation,” said the head of state at a ceremony at the French presidential office to mark the eightieth anniversary of the Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France (CRIF).
Yonathan Arfi, President of the CRIF, deplored the fact that antisemitic acts have multiplied since the October 7 terrorist attack and that the model of the Republic is under attack in such a way that is unprecedented in the last 80 years.
Yonathan Arfi called for France to show „the same solidarity and trust with Israeli democracy in the face of terrorism” as it does with Ukraine in the face of Russian oppression. He expressed concern that France „condemns Israel more severely than other countries” in international institutions.
„To love Israel, to want its security, does not mean to agree with every decision of a democratic government. We have to accept, as democracies allow us to do, to voice our disagreements, „the President said in his reply, reiterating his call for respect for „humanitarian law, the law of war and international law” in the Gaza Strip.
