Jewish French man murdered with axe by roommate

A Jewish Frenchman was allegedly killed with an axe and burned in the face by his Muslim roommate in Longperrier, France.

A 34-year-old Jewish man was allegedly killed by his Muslim roommate in Longperrier, a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in Northern France, reports The Jerusalem Post. According to the National Bureau of Vigilance against Antisemitism (BNVCA), the murdered man was Eliahou Haddad.

„The assassination was committed by a suspect of [the] Muslim faith. The concern is heightened by the silence surrounding this case,” the organization added in a press release, likely referring to the murder of other Jews in France like Sarah Halimi.

Some reports suggest that Haddad was murdered on August 20, not the 19th. According to i24NEWS, the suspect allegedly said that the victim, who possibly lived in the same flat, owed him 100 euros which he had not returned, and then confessed that he killed him because he was Jewish.

„According to our information, the assassin smashed his victim’s skull with an axe, then he burned his face and even began to bury the body. He turned himself into the police,” the BNVCA statement said.

A senior figure in a large Jewish Organization claimed that the attack did not seem to be antisemitic in nature. According to the official, Jewish leadership has been informed about this murder for at least a week and is in touch with law enforcement. He claimed that it must first be established as an antisemitic attack or a fight between friends. However, he added that seemingly, the attack had to do with „interpersonal relationships. The two knew each other very well.” Either way, he confirmed that the organization has to know, especially since „it’s been three months with three Jews being killed in weird situations in France, so we need to understand if there is a reason behind these terrible situations.”
