Jewish graves in Dagestan destroyed

Jewish graves in the Republic of Dagestan in Russia were found destroyed; authorities say it was an accident.

Makhachkala city officials say the tombstones were damaged in an accident when a driver lost control, and no antisemitic motives were mentioned, reports The Times of Israel.

“The vehicle had a flat tyre. It swerved off the lane and hit the graves,” a local official said. “The driver did not flee and promised to repair the damage.”

Images of the damaged tombstones in the multinational cemetery in the city of Makhachkala were initially posted on Telegram, Kan reported.

Last month, terrorists killed 22 people in Derbent and Makhachkala, burning down two synagogues along the way.
