Netanyahu condemns recognition of a Palestinian state, says it is a ‘reward for terror’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the decision of Spain, Ireland and Norway to recognise the Palestinian state, claiming they are handing out a „a reward for terrorism.”

„This evil must not be given a country. It will be a terror state. It will try to repeat the October 7 massacre, and we will not agree to that,” he said. „A reward for terrorism will not bring peace, and it will not stop us from defeating Hamas either,” said the Israeli Prime Minister in a video statement, adding that following the October 7 massacre, a poll revealed that eighty per cent of the Palestinians in the West Bank support the terrorist attack on Israel.

The decision of the three European nations drew wide condemnation among Israeli officials, including far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who called on Netanyahu to respond by imposing harsh punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority, including cutting off Ramallah financially. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz recalled the Israeli ambassadors from Ireland, Spain, and Norway for immediate consultations.

The announcement of the three countries came after ICC prosecutor Kharim Khan sought arrest warrants from the court’s judges for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, along with three top Hamas leaders.

Netanyahu strongly condemned his move in a video statement on X.

„The outrageous decision by the ICC prosecutor Kharim Khan to seek arrest warrants against the democratically elected leaders of Israel is a moral outrage of historic proportions. It will cast an everlasting shame on the international court.”

„Mr. Khan creates a twisted and false moral equivalence between the leaders of Israel and the henchmen of Hamas. This is like creating a moral equivalence after 9/11 between Bush and Osama bin Laden.”

„Mr Khan also sets a dangerous precedent and undermines every democracy’s right to defend themselves against terror organisations and aggressors.”

He is callously pouring gasoline on the fires of antisemitism that are spreading around the world.”
