Severely antisemitic pro-Palestinian poster at Polish university under investigation

A sign calling for Jews to be sent to the gas chambers was discovered among several pro-Palestinian protesters at a university in Poland.

The banner appeared at a pro-Palestinian protest at the Uniwersytet Jagielloński, the oldest university in Kraków, Poland, shared Israel’s Ambassador to Poland Yacov Livne on X, calling for intervention and investigation on behalf of the government and the police, reports The Jerusalem Post.

Amb. Yacov Livne 🇮🇱 on X (formerly Twitter): „While the Jewish state fights to make the world a safer place, Israel-haters in Krakow @JagiellonskiUni apparently want to murder Jews by gas, as was done in nearby Auschwitz. I call on the Polish authorities to look closely into the events taking place on this campus. pic.twitter.com/dnu9O4Bry5 / X”

While condemning the antisemitic banner, Krakow Mayor Aleksander Miszalski stated that “it is rather heavy-handed to label Poland or Krakowians as antisemitic or racist. Kraków continues to implement inclusive policies supporting national, ethnic and religious minorities.”

Aleksander Miszalski on X (formerly Twitter): „As the mayor of Kraków, I strongly condemn the language used here. According to information provided by @JagiellonskiUni, the banner appeared overnight. It is unclear to what accusation Mayor Miszalski is referring to, as the ambassador’s post did not label Poland or Krakowians antisemitic.

MAyor Miszalski stressed that the university is “autonomous and independent of the authorities,” nevertheless, he added that the banner had been removed and that the incident was being investigated by local police.

The poster drew condemnation from the American Jewish Committee’s Central European offices, who claimed that it is the perfect example of the crossover between anti-Zionism and antisemitism.
