Actress Susan Sarandon has been fired by the Hollywood Actors Guild (UTA) after speaking at a pro-Palestinian protest in New York.
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon has been active in several pro-Palestinian demonstrations recently and was eventually fired by the Hollywood Actors Guild (UTA) as a client after speaking at the New York demonstration on November 17, reports The Guardian.
„There are a lot of people that are afraid, that are afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence,” Sarandon said on the stage at the rally, which drew significant criticism from many.
In her speech, she urged her audience to stand up for the Palestinians, noting that more and more people are beginning to ask questions, stand up for what is right and move away from the brainwashing they have been subjected to since childhood. The actress expressed gratitude towards the local Jewish community for „coming out and standing behind us.”
The paper also mentions that Susan Sarandon posted a pro-Palestinian X post by Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters, which also outraged many, as the musician is widely considered antisemitic for his questionable statements.
Sarandon was not the only one to have a problem with their pro-Palestinian stance in the US. Melissa Barrera was also fired from the cast of Scream VII because the production company found some of her posts to be antisemitic. The actress voiced her support for Palestinians on Instagram, writing that Israel is committing „genocide” by brutally murdering Palestinian mothers and children under the pretext of taking action against Hamas.
