A synagogue in Trieste, Italy, was vandalised with antisemitic graffiti on the 84th anniversary of Kristallnacht. The graffiti was spray-painted on the front of the synagogue’s building on Thursday, November 10, reports the Israel National News.

The graffiti said in Italian: „Jews are the new racists and fascists.” The incident was denounced by authorities in the region where Trieste is located and was condemned by the region’s governor, Massimiliano Fedriga, who described the vandalism as a „cowardly gesture that must be firmly condemned.”

The Italian police have opened an investigation and are tracking down the perpetrator.

This is not the first time the Trieste synagogue has been vandalised. In 2020, a suspect allegedly broke two windows „for the purpose of ethnic-religious hatred.”
