Tamás Deutsch, Head of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, told the Magyar Nemzet that David Pressman legitimised antisemitic statements by inviting Márton Gyöngyösi, the leader of the political party Jobbik – Conservatives to the seder evening at the U.S. Embassy.
„The most outrageous antisemitic statement in the more than thirty years since the regime change is related to Márton Gyöngyösi,” claimed Tamás Deutsch in an interview with the Magyar Nemzet after David Pressman, U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, invited Márton Gyöngyösi, the leader of the Jobbik – Conservatives party, to the seder evening held at the U.S. Embassy.
„A more genuine antisemitic statement than the one made by Márton Gyöngyösi – in which he listed people of Jewish descent and analysed them as national security risks – can only be found in the darkest eras of the 20th century. To invite such a man to the U.S. Ambassador’s dinner held on the occasion of the greatest Jewish holiday is a provocation to all benevolent Hungarians and to the Hungarian Jewish community, ” said the governing party politician.
What happened is in stark contrast to the intentions of the 150,000-strong Hungarian Jewish community, the politician said.
The chairman of Jobbik – Conservatives wrote on Facebook that „there is no more touching and intimate experience for a conservative European than when members of the religious community of the Judeo-Christian culture experience their living relationship with God together, confessing their faith before their God and their community.”
