German court imposes a fine on pro-Palestinian protester

A 22-year-old German of Iranian origin has been fined by a German court for chanting „from the river to the sea.”

Ava Moayeri, who chanted „From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” at a Berlin rally, was imposed a 600 EUR fine by a German court. Moayeri initially faced three years of prison, reports The Jerusalem Post.

Judge Birgit Blazer explained her ruling by stating that the phrase, along with the timing in which the slogan was shouted [i.e. following the October 7 massacre], „could only be understood as a denial of Israel’s right to exist and an endorsement of the attack.” Since the October 7 massacre, the number of antisemitic incidents in Germany has sharply risen by 83%, according to the RIAS watchdog.
