Paris Police Probe Vandalism at Jewish Primary School

French authorities have opened an investigation after a Jewish primary school in Paris was vandalised overnight, in an incident that adds to growing concerns about antisemitic attacks across the country, reports Israel National News.

The vandalism occurred on Saturday night at the Lubavitch-Beit Chana Jewish Primary School, located in Paris’s 20th arrondissement. According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, several unidentified individuals arrived at the site and caused significant damage. Three windows were smashed, a security camera was damaged, and the school’s identification sign was forcibly removed.

Police later recovered the sign in a nearby park. Authorities confirmed that there was no break-in to the school building itself, but described the damage as serious. An investigation has been opened into suspected major property damage, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible.

The incident comes amid a sustained rise in antisemitic acts in France. Figures from the Interior Ministry show that 1,570 antisemitic incidents were recorded nationwide in 2024. Between January and August 2025 alone, a further 889 incidents were reported, with full annual figures expected later this month.

French officials have repeatedly warned that Jewish institutions remain at heightened risk. In November last year, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting Jewish schools, synagogues, and community centres, and pledged an uncompromising response to antisemitism.

Jewish organisations have said that attacks on educational institutions are particularly alarming, as they target children and families and undermine the sense of safety within Jewish communal life.
