Action and Protection League Expands Cooperation with Zionist Horizon in Israel

The Action and Protection League (APL) has continued its cooperation with the Israeli organisation Zionist Horizon, with APL’s Director of External Affairs delivering a series of lectures in Israel focused on European politics, identity, and sovereignty. The events form part of an ongoing partnership aimed at strengthening understanding between European and Israeli civil society actors.

This week, Tamir Wertzberger, APL’s Director of External Affairs, met with Israeli university students in the cities of Lod and Acre. The lectures addressed the current political landscape of the European Union, with a particular focus on Hungary and the wider debates taking place across Europe over national sovereignty, identity, and the future direction of the EU.

Wertzberger provided an overview of internal tensions within the European Union, explaining how disagreements between member states reflect more profound questions about democratic values, cultural identity, and political authority. The sessions aimed to give Israeli students a more precise and more nuanced understanding of Europe’s political challenges and the forces shaping public debate across the continent.

The visit builds on a cooperation process that began in September, when the Action and Protection League hosted a delegation of Zionist Horizon students in Budapest. That earlier programme introduced participants to European institutions, Jewish life in Central Europe, and APL’s work combating antisemitism through monitoring, legal action, and public engagement.

According to organisers, the partnership between the Action and Protection League and Zionist Horizon is based on long-term cooperation, shared expertise, and educational exchange. Further joint initiatives and professional programmes are planned as the collaboration continues to develop.
